Chimei Innolux Corp, which was created from the merger of Taiwan-based LCD makers Chi Mei Optoelectronics Co, Innolux Display Co and TPO Displays Co, will submit an application to the Taiwan authorities to set up a 7.5-generation LCD panel plant in mainland China by the end of June.
Chimei Innolux may invest at least US$1 billion in the planned plant, and it did not rule out the possibility to work with a mainland partner to build the plant, said the source.
The plant, which will mainly supply LCD panels to television makers, will be able to produce panels with 40 inches.
