Spanish wind turbine maker Gamesa SA (MCE:GAM) is considering building a plant in Denmark.
Last month, Gamesa agreed to take a minority stake in German sector player Bard Engineering GmbH, thereby speeding up its entry into the growing market for offshore wind turbines.
Now the project is due to have production near the main markets for offshore wind turbines, namely the North Sea, the English Channel and the Baltic Sea.
Gamesa is considering the towns of Esbjerg, Aarhus and Aalborg on the Danish Jutland (Jylland) peninsula as well as the Lindo Shipyard on the island of Funen (Fyn), according to sources. The company is also exploring sea areas, where production of offshore wind turbines is possible. Gamesa is also reportedly looking at sites in Germany and the UK. Additionally, the company is considering the option of producing the turbines at its existing plants in Spain and shipping them from there.
At present, the Spanish company has a small sales and development facility in Silkeborg on Jutland.
