The US-based Mate Precision Tooling is introducing its new, patent-pending lubrication pads, Eliminator, designed to keep the punch tip lubricated throughout the punching process, preventing galling and other problems. They also help reduce heat buildup in the punch, extending tool life while maintaining quality edges to punched parts.

According to the company, Eliminator lubrication pads can insert easily into tooling assemblies. Once in place, they ensure even distribution of lubricant on the punch through each punching cycle, providing extra tooling protection and enhancing the punching process. They are particularly helpful when punching difficult materials and when operating the turret press at optimal speeds, Mate stresses.

"Mate's Eliminator lubrication pads help deliver more value to the punching process," says John Galich, Mate marketing manager. "During our extensive product testing, our test engineers were amazed that there was no galling on the punch. They are an economical way to extend tooling life while ensuring top quality punching results. Eliminator pads are yet another innovative Mate product that helps fabricators lower their operating costs and improve their piece part quality."

The lubrication pads are made of durable polyether filter foam. They are available in sizes for A through E station thick turret tooling, but can also be used in other tooling styles.

To set up, the user is to insert a lubrication pad of a correct size into the punch and stripper assembly, "punch" the hole into the pad, and then saturate the pad with 46- 68 ISO viscosity hydraulic oil, according to Mate.
