Wuhan Farley Laserlab Cutting System Engineering Co Ltd, an affiliate of Australia HG-Farley Laserlab and a subsidiary of Wuhan Huagong Laser Engineering Co Ltd, entered the automobile market after winning an auto-body welding contract from Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Co Ltd earlier this year.
Li Bin, General Manager of Wuhan Farley Laserlab, shared his views on the auto market and laser processing technologies in an interview with CMJ Chinamac Journal recently.

CMJ: What are the advantages of Farley in the bidding of the Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen contract?
Li: We have seen huge potential in the Chinese auto market and have emphasized on technology innovation in that area over the past years. We are able to meet the technological requirements of Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen while at the same time offer cost advantage to the client.
CMJ: What was the key concern of Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen in the tendering process?
Li: The client was concerned about the maturity of the vendors’ technology, especially on laser welding technique, and the reliability of the vendors’ equipment.
CMJ: What are the strategies of Farley on product and research and development in the Chinese auto market?
Li: All our products are comparable to the more expensive imported equipment in terms of quality. We also offer better services and cost advantage at the same time.
CMJ: Could you share your view on the trend and applications of laser welding technology?
Li: The applications of laser welding technology are expected to extend further in the machine building, aerospace, auto making, sintered metal and biomedical instrument sectors.
